Headcanon: the reason that John started doing shots behind Sherlock’s back was because he thought Sherlock was doing an experiment (look at his expressions in .gifs 2 and 3, when he realizes that Sherlock is tracking the time/amount he’s had to drink) and he wanted to mess up the results.
