Re(?)introduction Time

So this is more of an introduction rather than a reintroduction, but hey anyway.

Back a couple years or thereabouts ago, I was beginning to really lose interest in the Sherlock fandom (hah) and looking for something a bit different and hopefully with a lot less drama. I’d been watching Hannibal, but hadn’t gotten into the fandom at that point, so I decided to go looking for some Hannigram blogs to follow. I ended up on a blog (which I’ve long since forgotten the name of) that posted a lot of Hannigram, but also a lot of Kingsman/Hartwin.

Now, Kingsman was a movie that I’d definitely considered going to see, but, as is most often the case with movies I think about seeing, it hadn’t happened (and by this time it was well out of the theatres). But I certainly remembered the trailers and all, and as I kept going back through that blog I got more and more interested. Then I started looking at other Hartwin blogs, and inevitably reading fic, and so that was that. 🙂

Also, as fortune had it, the movie came out on DVD/Blu-ray/etc. either that week or the week after, so I was set.

I drifted a bit away from the fandom for the past year or so, poked at the Hobbit fandom a bit but never really got into it, then a few months ago got into Gradence. And that was how I eventually came full circle back to Kingsman: I happened across a blog – @calllay – who I recognized from my past Kingsman days, found they were still posting Kingsman from time to time, and almost instantly I was right back in.

I’ve got a couple fics of my own that I started writing/fleshing out a good while back, though I’ve not posted anything yet. One is an A/B/O smutfest fic with sex pollen (kind of) and dubcon bonding, and a happy smoopy ending. The one I’ve written the most on is a gifset-inspired series of darkish, dead-dove short fics, called Butterfly on My Wall (thank you, trailer and subsequent gifsets, for reminding me that I could be writing), with violent psychopath!Harry, that starts out similarly to the movie but takes place a few months before Lancelot is killed, and leads in with bad!Harry drugging, kidnapping, and raping Eggsy, with the series continuing through more unpleasantness and Stockholm syndrome and eventually a very-dubiously happy/healthy relationship. (Again, dead dove.) The other idea that’s really stuck with me is a slow-burn, fluffy, non-spy AU with gentleman!Harry and valet!Eggsy. Again with a similar start to the movie; then mutual pining, Eggsy dressing and undressing Harry every day and so on, (retired military) Harry training Eggsy to be his bodyguard even though he almost certainly doesn’t need one at all; happy, squishy, cavity-inducing ending. I’d love for it to be at least 30k, though I’m not sure if I could manage it (also I still haven’t been able to figure out what Harry actually does in that universe, since he’s not a spy :p).

I’m really excited to see so many familiar names/faces already! Kingsman has been one of my favorite fandoms ever, and it’s so good to be back.

Harry Hart, Kingsman’s number one secret agent. Back from the dead, having seemingly been killed with a bullet to the head in The Secret Service. “Harry is back,” says Vaughn, carefully, though he won’t reveal how or why. “But he’s not the Harry we knew. He’s Harry Hart, but he ain’t Galahad.” If we are ever to see him back as his swashbuckling self, much will depend on his relationship with Eggsy. “The only person who believes in him now is Eggsy,” adds Vaughn. “Nobody else does. It’s quite sweet.”

This reminds me of the first bit of the scene where Eggsy goes to see Arthur after Harry got shot; like

Eggsy: Arthur, Harry’s dead…
Arthur: –Galahad– is dead

Head’s up that I’m going to be reblogging Kingsman stuff, including spoilery things. I’ll be tagging with  #K2:TGC spoilers  if you want to blacklist.

Edit: And also  #Kingsman spoilers  for good measure.

gosh but like we spent hundreds of years looking up at the stars and wondering “is there anybody out there” and hoping and guessing and imagining

because we as a species were so lonely and we wanted friends so bad, we wanted to meet other species and we wanted to talk to them and we wanted to learn from them and to stop being the only people in the universe

and we started realizing that things were maybe not going so good for us– we got scared that we were going to blow each other up, we got scared that we were going to break our planet permanently, we got scared that in a hundred years we were all going to be dead and gone and even if there were other people out there, we’d never get to meet them

and then

we built robots?

and we gave them names and we gave them brains made out of silicon and we pretended they were people and we told them hey you wanna go exploring, and of course they did, because we had made them in our own image

and maybe in a hundred years we won’t be around any more, maybe yeah the planet will be a mess and we’ll all be dead, and if other people come from the stars we won’t be around to meet them and say hi! how are you! we’re people, too! you’re not alone any more!, maybe we’ll be gone

but we built robots, who have beat-up hulls and metal brains, and who have names; and if the other people come and say, who were these people? what were they like?

the robots can say, when they made us, they called us discovery; they called us curiosity; they called us explorer; they called us spirit. they must have thought that was important.

and they told us to tell you hello.

So, I have to say something.

This is my favorite post on this website.

I’ve seen this post in screenshots before, and the first time I read it, I cried. Just sat there with tears running down my face.

Because this, right here, is the best of us, we humans. That we hope, and dream of the stars, and we don’t want to be alone. That this is the best of our technology, not Terminators and Skynet, but our friends, our companions, our legacy. Our message to the stars.

I’m flat out delighted, and maybe even a little honored, that I get to reblog this.
