Pan! Have you/do you plan to see Alien: Covenant? I want to know your Thoughts! (esp. on Walter)

anon! i haven’t seen it, and i’m not sure if i will haha……i flinch at toast popping up out of the toaster so i don’t tend to do well in movies like this that always have shit popping up out of nowhere nervous laughter sdkfjsdf

should i brave it anyway? i don’t even know if it’s gotten good reviews?

Speaking as someone who also jumps at toasters popping (without fail, urgh; I also hated jack-in-the-boxes as a kid), I didn’t find this movie startling. Like, yeah there were things popping out, but it seemed to always be really built up and obvious that something was coming, and more or less where it was coming from – but not toaster levels of suspense.

Like, I’d say it was a movie designed for people who are familiar with the franchise and similar movies – the pop-out-of-nowhere tactic would have come across as tacky and cheap, so they ditched it in favor of something more straightforward: just get straight to the event and how it affects the people.

I really, really enjoyed Covenant. It was really intense, but it was much more character-focused, rather than scare-focused, imho. Also, what @secret-nature said!

Some Alien: Covenant thoughts/headcanons – SPOILERS aplenty!

– I’ve been trying to piece together how things happened to Elizabeth, and my current headcanon is that she was in hypersleep when she and David got to the planet. And instead of waking her up, David released the containers and all that. And maybe he gave her much the same story as he did Walter – that there was an accident/malfunction. But maybe she still suspected he was lying, or she just wanted to go back to Earth since all the Engineers were gone, and was taking the ship home (and that’s when the “Take Me Home, Country Roads” recording took place). But either David had sabotaged the ship beforehand or as it was taking off, leading to it crashing up on the mountainside. Then he brought Elizabeth back to the citadel and of course things ended very poorly for her. 😦

– I fully believe that David did love Elizabeth – the small monument to her in the garden, her photo on his desk, even the careful and artistic display of her remains. But it wasn’t a sort of love that would have kept her safe from his grand plans, and rather gave him reason to make her a central part of that plan. 😦

– While past Alien movies have had obviously close friendships and camaraderie, relationships that were certainly comparable to family, it really made a difference that the entire Covenant crew was couples. Like, each time a character was killed, knowing that there was at least one other character that was truly impacted by the loss, that those characters really mattered to someone. Their deaths felt a lot less like throw-away action/gore fillers.

– And was that a tiny bit of non-het representation, too?

– When the rescue craft was coming in and “Walter” came running out, I immediately suspected it was David – that big slash lingering across his cheek, when Walter had taken a flute through the throat just a short while before that healed up almost immediately. Now, it could have been that whatever mechanism/chemical process that allowed Walter to heal had limits, and maybe he’d used up all his healing juice, lol. But still, very suspicious. And then when he was changing the guy’s bandage I was thinking that that would be a great opportunity to slip in some black goo! Then there were a bunch of little moments: “Walter” touching his arm stump while talking to Daniels (David, you manipulative shit); not responding immediately when Daniels asked him where the alien was; and I didn’t realize it consciously at the time, but something about the cadence of his speech was off, even if his accent was there. Still, I kept hoping that I was wrong, lol. T_T And then, just before Daniels put on her headcap and got in her pod, there was a wider shot of the two of them and I was like shit, that’s David’s posture! Like, I don’t know what Walter’s posture would have been, but that was absolutely David (nooooooo). ;m; And then the reveal, darn it.

– I’m pretty sure I had something else, but I’m totally spacing it now… Oops.

im ready to burn my tongue off and astrally project into the signing of the federalist papers

it’s like. a carbonated oreo. i dont know whats happening in my mouth right now mr jefferson

I’m ready to dip this fucker into some coca cola myself

Okay, so I caved and bought these (even though I currently have almost 2 full boxes of regulars at home that I haven’t been eating *wince*). For anyone who likes Oreos, I definitely recommend giving these a try!

You know those tubs/hot tubs with the super-super-fine bubble jets? It’s kind of like having your tongue/mouth in one of those, lol. Except instead of hot water, it’s Oreo filling! The little pop rocks are all tiny, so you don’t get the occasional big cracks like with standard Pop Rocks; just some light, pleasant fizzing that lingers a bit after the rest of the cookie is gone. :3

They’re fun!

Write out the name Donkey Kong but replace the “D” in Donkey with the first consonant of your first name and replace the “K” in Kong with the first consonant of your last name. That is your official DK Crew name.

I have been personally victimized by this post.  It was written just to spite me.  Just to rustle my jimmies.  Just to call me Monkey Dong.

Cause of death: Harry Hart in an eyepatch with his hair a little shorter and unstyled in a comfortable looking sweater as he shaves, surrounded by what appears to be the walls of a padded cell like the most dapper prisoner in existence and thERE ARE BUTTERFLY DRAWINGS ON THE WALL OH GOD HE CAN DRAW AND THEY’RE BUTTERFLIES I AM NOT OKAY

Do you know what really gets me? That some of the butterflies look really simple and blobby, like something a little kid would draw. And imagining Harry starting out with these little doodles that are just recognizable as butterflies, and continuing to draw more and more, and they get more complex and realistic, and he adds all these notes all around them, filling in all the gaps…

(And also! That that one blobby child-esque butterfly just to the left of Harry’s shoulder has blue and gray wings, just a little reminiscent of the shirt that Eggsy was wearing when Harry picked him up from the police station.)
