And I’ve been seeing things that I’m a little confused over.
Apparently, there are two Peter Parkers? Deadpool killed the older Peter Parker in one universe and…from what I can tell, is trying and failing to make a bromance with the high school one.
Peter Parker is abusive? I’ve only read the comic where Deadpool and Spiderman are all webbed up together, so I haven’t seen much of Peter’s interaction with Wade. But…does Peter get aggressively mean toward Wade later in the comics?
Wow. No. I can totally see why you might think that given the way people argue on Tumblr
The high school Peter Parker exists in the MCU, the movie franchise owned by Disney which includes the Avengers but not the X-Men which is owned by Fox. The Peter Parker that Andrew Garfield played is in college and he’s owned by Sony. Each of these three are alternate universes. The Deadpool you see in the movie is in the XMCU universe. Spider-Man and Deadpool are owned by different movie companies so they aren’t allowed to be in the same movie universes
In the comics, the main continuity owned and run by Marvel they obviously don’t have to be split apart. They’re are alternate universes (like the one where Captain America and Iron Man get married to end the Civil War and one where everyone has a beard, even the women) but the main universe is called Earth 616. If you pick up a comic book you can assume it’s from that universe unless it says differently
On Earth 616 Peter Parker’s already out of college, he’s about 30 years old. Deadpool never went to college but he’s also about 30 years old. Technically Spider-Man is supposed to be older but with comic book magic may have become the same age.
Deadpool can break the fourth wall which means he knows everything that’s going on, he knows he’s in a comic book and he knows everything that’s happened to everyone else. The problem is, he has severe psychosis amon and has frequent bouts of amnesia (he is pretty seriously mentally ill) so he doesn’t know if what he knows actually happened or sometimes he just forgets what he knows for a while.
That means Deadpool knows that Peter Parker is Spider-Man but Peter Parker doesn’t know he knows and luckily for him, Deadpool doesn’t remember he knows. That led to a pretty big problem because Deadpool is in love with Spider-Man and it seemed like Peter Parker was getting between them and doing things he was sure Spider-Man wouldn’t want so he killed Peter Parker.
Deadpool almost immediately realized he had judged Peter Parker wrong and knew that Spider-Man would be mad at him since he thinks Spider-Man maybe in love with Peter Parker so he went into the afterlife and made a deal with Death to bring Peter Parker back to life. We don’t know all of what the deal entails yet other than Deadpool now isn’t disfigured which would usually be something he wants but for some reasons, some of which we don’t know, it’s not a good thing right now. His wife left him because of it (in the event of saving Peter Parker he kinda had to make a choice between him, his now estranged wife, or his ex Death and he chose Peter Parker for Spider-Man’s sake) and he’s been self harming to make himself look closer to what he knows himself as despite liking being good-looking.
So, Peter Parker is alive again and is able to keep Deadpool convinced that he and Spider-Man are different people. As for right now, Deadpool thinks that he made a sacrifice to save a guy he didn’t like just so he wouldn’t disappoint Spider-Man.
Spider-Man was obviously none too happy with the events but forgave him after Deadpool explained his reasoning
As for Peter Parker being abusive, kind of. Until last year he had judged Deadpool by his reputation and thought that he was a horrible person and was pretty mean and violent to him
but in Spider-Man/Deadpool Deadpool convinces him to give him a second chance and Spider-Man realizes he was very wrong. He’s ashamed to realize that Deadpool actually understands more about the world that Spider-Man’s privilege has blinded him to
Deadpool letting Spider-Man be one of the very few people he exposes his daughter Ellie to also did a lot to change Spider-Man’s mind
Spider-Man kinda goes from 0 to 100 and continuously assures Deadpool that they are friends
and instead of hurting him, he starts to help him
Spider-Man has never really been that put off by Deadpool’s feelings for him, it always just really annoyed him and since they have begun being friends he still tolerates it even though he’s very clear he doesn’t return Deadpool’s feelings
A bunch of other stuff happens and then the two of them find out through magic that they are “heartmates” which is more or less like a soulmate but a soulmate is actually anyone who is supposed to be in your life for any reason, the term heartmates is used to describe a soulmate you are meant to love. I don’t know if the writers were entirely clear on that but that’s how the terms are actually used IRL.
So if Spider-Man treats him badly now it’s a domestic dispute. I wouldn’t like Spider-Man not to hurt Deadpool but I would also love to see them go to trial in Family Court
