i’ll tell you what it is because it’s highly doubtful i’ll ever write it but my idea was that you open on billy as a prostitute in the brothel and steve comes along seeming wide eyed and innocent kinda like teddy…you think steve’s a guest. but he’s not. he’s a host. they both are. steve fights to win billy in a poker game from the brothel owner who mistreats him (billy will fight anyone but that guy who he’s afraid of, so essentially he’s a neil character). there’s a dramatic gunfight but steve saves billy. the weird part is, no guests are part of their narrative. if the guests try to interfere in their narrative, they can only help to pair steve up with billy, helping in some way. and nobody even sleeps with billy or steve for that matter!
two guests discuss this.
“What the fuck? that hot piece of ass is a prostitute host and i can’t fuck him??? what the hell is this?” one guy says.
“oh, you don’t know about billy and steve?” his friend says.
“uh no. care to enlighten me?”
turns out billy and steve are different from all the other hosts. they’ve been in several different narratives, some where billy is a black hat killer and steve is good guy sherrif’s deputy, another where billy was trying to get out from under his abusive rancher father and bedroom eyes harrington swept in to save him, another where they’re competing bandits who keep having run-ins… in every single narrative they’ve had, they always fall in love and they always end up together even if they eventually die. they’re the only hosts that aren’t particularly interactive with the guests who only really watch their story play out.
“i don’t get it,” the one guy says. “why them? why billy and steve?”
“the rumor is, they were real,” the other one says. “a long time ago. they fell in love. saved each other’s asses a lot. stayed together til they died together of old age. scuttlebutt says one of the designers knew them. created the billy and steve hosts as a kind of tribute to them. all they do is fall in love. over and over. forever.”
